An authentic palazzo on Lake Garda

Palazzo sul Garda as evening approachesIf you are looking for a vacation rental on Lake Garda, take a look at Palazzo sul Garda near the town of Toscolano Maderno on Garda’s western shore.

It’s a different experience to stay in a place that still reflects the history and tradition of the classic villas and residences of the Baroque period.  The frescoes on the walls and ceilings of this apartment are bright and colorful and don’t look as though they were painted more than two hundred years ago.

The ceilings are high and the grand salons and staircases are impressive.  You feel as though you are living in another time, which is one of the best reasons to visit Italy.

Stand on the outside balcony in the morning and take in the fresh air coming in from the lake right before you.  Just below is the garden with short hedges planted in the shape of a “C” and “D” for the initials of the original owner.  Beyond the garden’s portico is a marina, and the lake lies just beyond it.

Nearby, there are towns that are important in Italy’s history.  Salo’, the home of Mussolini’s last attempt at government, is only a few kilometers away and it now offers elegant shops and engaging pathways through the town and along the waterway.

Toscolano and Maderno are actually two towns that are so close to one another that they are considered as one.  There is a gravel beach here that invites you into the clear and clean water for a swim.  Fishermen are perched on the docks and in the town the locals sit and talk in the lively way that characterizes every authentic Italian city.

Lake Garda offers good weather almost year-round.  There are palm trees here, lemons and orange groves thrive and no one can remember when there was snow in the winter.  This is a real contrast to the cities of the Dolomites, which are not far away.
