Napoleon takes Capri from Villa del Re

In October of 1808, the forces of Napoleon Bonaparte were successful in defeating the British garrison on the island of Capri and thus securing the trade routes around Naples for the Emperor.

The military operation was supervised from the terrace of a beautiful villa that overlooks the Tyrrhenian Sea and has a clear view of Capri just across the water.

The mastermind of the operation was Joachim Murat, who was married to Napoleon’s sister Caroline and earned the title of King of Naples under Napoleon’s vast area of control.

Today, this villa is a national monument and, due to a recent restoration, a lovely and enchanting house which is available for rental.  Villa del Re offers a truly unique opportunity to stay in a villa which is historically important, comfortable and well positioned to visit the sites of the area.

From the terrace, you can see the cozy harbor of Marina della Lobra below, and the town of Massa Lubrense on the adjacent hillside.  The vast sea and Capri are right before you. And from this historic terrace you can also observe the sunset each evening as it moves slowly into the horizon.

Villa del Re has five bedrooms and four baths and can comfortably accommodate groups between eight and ten guests. It offers a classic and comfortable interior with an elegant and spacious exterior garden with pool, play area and lounges. Contact us for more information.
